System of a Down regresan 15 años después

System of a Down se mantienen activos de manera recurrente como banda tocando en directo, pero siempre con la pregunta incómodo de cuando se decidirían a publicar nueva música. Pues bien, 15 años después, llega la respuesta: hoy.

Porque el grupo estrena este viernes ‘Protect the land’ y ‘Genocidal humanoidz’, dos rotundas y furiosas canciones que pretenden llamar la atención sobre la guerra perpetrada contra sus ancestros en Artsakh y Armenia por Azerbaiyán y Turquía.

Eso es lo que finalmente ha motivado a System of a Down, banda estadounidense con orígenes armenios, a reunirse en el estudio para crear nuevas composiciones 15 años después de lanzar en 2005 sus dos últimos discos: ‘Hypnotize’ y ‘Mezmerize’.

«El momento de hacer esto es ahora, juntos, nosotros cuatro tenemos algo extremadamente importante que decir como una única voz. Estas dos canciones hablan de una seria y terrible guerra en nuestras tierras de origen», explica el grupo.

Y añade: «Os animamos a aprender más para hablar sobre las horribles injusticias y violaciones de los derechos humanos que están ocurriendo allí ahora. Os imploramos que donéis, poco o mucho, para ayudar a los afectados por estos crímenes contra la humanidad».

El vocalista Serj Tankian remarca que publican estos temas como una «batalla existencial» por su gente, de manera que es algo «muy personal» para ellos. Y pide sanciones contra Turquía y Azerbaiyán, así como el reconocimiento de la república de Artsakh.

We as System Of A Down have just released new music for the first time in 15 years. The time to do this is now, as together, the four of us have something extremely important to say as a unified voice. These two songs, “Protect The Land” and “Genocidal Humanoidz,” both speak of a dire and serious war being perpetrated upon our cultural homelands of Artsakh and Armenia.  The current corrupt regimes of Aliyev in Azerbaijan and Erdogan in Turkey not only want to claim Artsakh and Armenia as their own, but are committing genocidal acts with impunity on humanity and wildlife to achieve their mission. They are banking on the world being too distracted with COVID, elections and civil unrest to call out their atrocities. They have the bankroll, the resources and have recruited massive public relations firms to spin the truth and conceal their barbaric objective of genocide. Between these two dictatorships, there’s a lot of disinformation and silencing of voices within their own countries. Freedom of speech is not something that is enjoyed by everyone, but it is enjoyed here, so part of that responsibility is getting the truth out there whenever possible. We’re here to protect our land, to protect our culture, and to protect our nation. This is not the time to turn a blind eye.
